Yin + Kirtan

Yin is one of the most delicious forms of yoga you can experience. It is a passive, non-ambitious practice, with long-held floor poses and a deep attention to mindfulness and mindful breathing. It targets connective tissue and joints rather than muscles, gently encouraging a quiet internalised approach. We emerge from a yin practice feeling centred, balanced, whole and relaxed.

Chloe McKay is one of our most loved teachers at The Stables, skilled in yin, mindfulness, yoga therapy and more dynamic styles too.

Chanting is the use of sound to affect consciousness. Happiness or sorrow, joy or regret are vibratory frequencies in the mind. When we chant a mantra we are choosing to invoke the positive power contained in short repetitive phrases. It's blissful and very easy!

Nam Prakash will guide you through an hour of chanting mantras from several traditions - Sanskrit, Gurmukhi (from the tradition of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan) and even some English ones.
Nam Prakash Kaur has been teaching Kundalini Yoga in York since 2009 and assists on the Level 1 teacher training (where there's a lot of chanting!). She chants every day, and is looking forwards immensely to sharing this peaceful, uplifting experience with you all.

A day retreat of nurturing yoga, meditation and breath work fuelled by nourishing food, lovingly prepared by AFNutrition.

Treat yourself to a day of self-care where we'll be exploring yoga practices that relax and revitalise body and mind. Mindfulness meditation and breathing techniques along with dynamic flow, yin and restorative yoga will provide you with the much needed 'me time' to develop inner calm and peace. Throughout the day you'll be fed and watered with seasonally prepared, nutritious food tailored to support the day’s activities and to balance and nourish the body. Deep into Autumn and fast approaching Winter, the end of November is a time for slowing down and reflecting. The evenings begin to draw in making it a perfect time for subtle candle light and a more gentle nurturing yoga practice. At this workshop we’ll be celebrating the season with a gratitude practice: pausing to appreciate all that we have in our lives that make us feel connected, loved and alive. The evening will begin with some slow flowing yoga before we turn further inwards for an hour of nourishing yin yoga. Gratitude and thanksgiving will be interwoven throughout the evening.

Yoga Supper Club

Come to an evening that takes you out of York, into the yoga studios of India and onwards to the dinner tables of Palestine.

We begin with an hour-long session of gentle, flowing hatha yoga led by Chloe McKay. Here you'll be guided inwards on a journey of self-exploration of body, mind and breath. Suitable for everyone.

After class, delicious cocktails will be served before the banquet begins. From the kitchen of Feeding the Rest, run by Megan Ponting we start with a traditional Middle Eastern mix of mezze followed by succulent green beans in a rich tomato sauce alongside 
traditional Palestinian sides. For something sweet: an Arabic adaptation of a pavlova and to finish a traditional Iraqi tea. All this will be served on traditionally made 'naked dye' linen.

The money raised from this eclectic, exciting evening will go to RAY 
(Refugee Action York) who work with families and individuals who have had to flee their home countries in search of a safer future. Chloe and Megan are volunteering their time and hard work, so come along to support and share!

Summer Solstice Workshop

The Summer Solstice is considered to be the longest day of the year when the tilt of the Earth's axis is most aligned with the sun giving us the most daylight. The summer solstice also marks the middle of summer and is celebrated by many cultures across the world. This year the solstice falls on June 21st so come and join us, just one day later, to celebrate at our Friday Night Yoga Club event.

The workshop will incorporate both yin and yang postures to balance body and mind. The session will start with a gentle dynamic flow, slowing down to long held, grounding yin asana. Underpinning the physical postures will be principles of mindfulness woven throughout to create a mellow, grounding and relaxing evening.

This workshop is suitable for all levels although some experience of yoga will be helpful.

We don’t often headstand, handstand or shoulderstand in class but these ‘topsy turvy’ poses are an important part of a traditional yoga practice; they're also satisfying to do, and have many benefits. This four week course will introduce you to the basic priniciples of yin yoga. A static and passive form of yoga, yin involves holding floor based poses for anywhere up to five minutes in order to work deeply into the soft tissue and release chronic tension in muscles, fascia and tendons. Yin Yoga also focusses the mind, develops concentration, soothes the emotions and fosters calm. 

This term we will focus on postures to balance the body and mind as we transition into Autumn.

Following on from the first, the '7 Day Intensive' is back with a second and final session before the end of summer.

Join me at The Stables Yoga Centre (off Bishopthorpe Road) where from Monday 12th to Sunday 18th of September I'll lead you through a series of early mornings classes. Each session will start at 7.15am and finish 8.15am leaving enough time for you to get to work, make the school run......or head home feeling relaxed and renewed. 

The classes will be dynamic and flowing in style with options to suit all levels (except complete beginners). Each class will be different and provide a new challenge every day but all will be woven together by an underpinning theme. 

Expect this week to challenge, stimulate, inspire and awaken you to your own inner potential. As well as the opportunity to deepen your existing yoga practise you will spend a week getting to know yourSELF better.

The intensive will culminate on day 7 with a post-class breakfast for all participants.
